Germans can best relax with friends and families
Stress and other psychological burdens are associated with a steady increase in mental illness for years. This makes rituals for relaxation all the more important. A representative survey conducted by GfK Marktforschung Nürnberg on behalf of the "Apotheken Umschau" has now examined how people in this country are most likely to seek relaxation. According to the "Apotheken Umschau", most Germans recover best "in the company of family and friends from their stressful everyday work."
As part of the representative survey, 1,103 working women and men aged 14 and over provided information on their preferred relaxation methods. The results show that many working people can relax and switch off particularly well "when they are with other people or have a hobby", reports the "Apotheken Umschau". Almost one in two (46.6 percent) stated that they consciously spend time with the family in order to leave the stressful everyday working life behind them. More than half (50.7 percent) of the respondents stated that they specifically maintain a lot of social contacts and use the time with them to relax. Friends and family are therefore particularly important for relaxation.
Relaxation with the hobby According to the current survey, hobbies also make a significant contribution to reducing stress with a relatively large number of respondents. For example, 45.3 percent of the participants declared that “caring for their hobbies is (is) one of the strategies they use to compensate for occupational stress,” reports the “Apotheken Umschau”. In addition, every second person (48.2 percent) tries to “strike a balance between work and leisure” or to achieve a balanced work-life balance in order to keep the perceived stress as low as possible. However, relaxation techniques such as yoga or autogenic training are relatively rare. According to the “Apotheken Umschau”, they are used by only 4.7 percent of all working people. However, it also plays a role here that many people do not have to master these special relaxation techniques or do not have to learn them first. (fp)
